a couple weeks back i attended NEXT's press and blogger event

undeniably the best so far, it was full of interesting textures, patterns and on trend silhouettes

taking note of the very versace-esque feel to these prints and the almost stella mccartney meets celine tropical trousers

not to mention some rather nice menswear too

after the initial walk around the collection, the bloggers were taken to the covent garden hotel for delicious afternoon tea

what could have been more welcome on what felt like arctic conditions outside?

this vintage store, RedRock Fashion, is chock-a-block full of sick pieces

those high waisted pants make me crave for summer

forget the snow, i want to be in cali with those red knickers, sleeveless top and an up-bun

but for now, i think i'll take note from the first style, and lust after the mohair cardi and wear black lipstick, to match the cold weather

it was full of bold colours, graphic prints and floral touches

me and a friend attended the olivier saillard fashion in motion show at the v&a on friday

it made for a very interesting show, as it had much more of a concept and performance art feel to it

with an almost 90s catwalk vibe

the models were much more interactive with saillard's theory of clothes

creating and reworking garments out of the same strip of white cloth

Flik Hall SS12

about a week ago i went to the evening preview of flik hall's spring summer collection

she told me this new work is based on sea life - octopi more specifically

this reads very well throughout the whole collection - with the soft leathers, the eyelets and strong prints

as a relatively new designer flik's work is getting stronger and stronger with every fresh collection

this being by far the most sophisticated and developed

the ability to maintain structure in the designs along with an etherial edge shows how versatile the pieces are

by far one of my favourite pieces was the leather playsuit in the first image - with its beautiful colour and print onto the soft leather, and eyelet detailing - reminiscent of the octopi tentacles

then after catch ups and meeting a few new people, me and Becca got down to the business at hand and had a nosey through the latest collections

i have to admit every time i see NEXT's latest collections i feel more and more drawn in

they seem capable of creating several pieces which always look designer and effortlessly edgy, at a price I'm actually capable of paying

the marled knit and gold painted jeans are now sitting, rather comfortably, at the top of my wish list

went to fashions night out at free people yesterday

literally one of my favourite shops - it plays host to such fabulous designs

i got this lovely shirt the other day from the shirt brand equipment, which i hadn't heard of until then, but it drew me right in with its delicate hawaiian print

also found this rather morbid, yet fascinating necklace at mark jacobs - razor blade in perspex anyone?

lots of you have been asking about how i did the 'pinball wizard' nails

and its very simple, just very time consuming

firstly you paint the nail with a base coat, then dip it straight into the pot of silver balls and take it out

then when dry do a top coat

et voila!

(quick sneak peek of a purse i made)

when i was out shopping in a craft store i came across these pots of thousands of tiny metal balls

and thought, hey, why don't i smother my nails in them

so i did

and although they didn't stick perfectly i kind of like them

possibly not for everyday, as well, they fall off if you do anything more than try to open a can

i sent a picture after i'd done them to a friend, proud as i was after painstakingly dipping every nail in the pot - possibly why I've never heard of anyone doing this before

she replied with: Brilliant nails. They're ridiculous.

this may have something to do with the picture she received too

mid waisted knickers with low rise shorts?

strange? yes. comfy? no, not when the cropped top with boning sticks in and the knickers aren't quite high enough. still work wearing? yes, the pattern and gold zips - such a vibrant design.

I've also taken to wearing flowers and bandanas in my hair; just cause that way it really feels like summer

the print nails are the best foils i've ever used - sally hansen i love you

i've only ever seen them in america and they work like a charm, last forever too

in my internet trawling endeavours i discovered the fabulous designer tsumori chisato

who has done a spectacular aw11 collection filled with gorgeously dramatic round 60s sunglasses and knits ranging from the sorbet pastels to the sultry

all in all a damned sassy collection, that i couldn't say no to

time for some changes round here i think squire

having been doing this for a while now and in looking at other peoples blogs, and even people on the street, i find myself drawn to the interesting little quirks of a look

although i of course love the overall effect the garments have - the little things really make it

sooo say BYE to the fall and HELLO to devil's in the detail (one of my most overused phrases)

so i'll focus mainly on one or two photos per post

or perhaps an inspiration image then my own influenced photo

and you maybe wondering about my sudden penchant for moustaches - well i've had one painted on the back of my door now, and doodles are fab, so there we go

ella, jonathan, olivia and i ran a project called the 'stitch clinic'

here is a knitted top i did for my latest project as a development piece

it was inspired by harbours and coastlines

the fold on the sleep and the open shoulders came from the shapes and stretching of the boat tarpaulin

the low dipping scooped back imitated the shape of the weights on the sides of the boats

its hand knitted in a silver grey

i've literally been busting my guts out working recently

so whether you like it or not a lot of my posts are going to be work related

hopefully that will interest you guys; so enjoy

above is a body piece that consisted of lots of separate textile samples layered up

the brief said we could only could only use one colour - so i went for coral, along with earth tones

incidentally, the coldest photo shoot i've ever done...

still love my docs, can't wait till they're all old and beat up

i think this is a GREAT picture dazed and confused got of scouse rapper elliott egerton

im a sucker for portrait pictures, i love love love when you really capture the moment, and as a result the photo holds a little bit of that persons personality. such honest photography

that aside, elliott's video 'hands high', whilst being well written and entertaining at times, also has some great imagery

i also cannot wait to see brighton rock, andrea riseborough is a fantastic actress

the feature on her was beautifully shot by rankin, as to be expected by someone of his talent

probably not appropriate to break out the bikinis just yet, but screw that, i had the perfect mix of modernised 90s kid grunge going on with this open knit jumper, splatter paint top and clubmasters

all i needed was a scrunchy, slightly dark lipstick and a small backpack

but, it would seem so much of life has become about showing people what you have

especially in blogging

as ive grown to notice this more and more, ive also realised that its not about how prestigious the label you wear is - blogging isnt about who has the most designer gear

but about how to appreciate a beautifully designed garment and to capture it in equally nice shots

and of course about styling! because frankly who doesnt like a little bit of dress up, not that we should need an excuse to do that

and i pledge to myself to no longer buy into 'fast fashion', and make more careful purchases in future

im sure this all seems a little out of the blue but as im spending more of my time creating, im developing a different eye for things and more appreciation for the craft of an item

despite my love of clothes and all things beautiful... i hate materialism. bit of an oxymoron, but such is life.

picked up this skirt in the sales for only £10! loved the origami slit in the side adds subtle beauty to such a simple skirt

i need need need spring for warmer weather

next SS11 blogger event

i was invited to attend the next ss11 blogger event

i had a lovely time and it was great to meet so many interesting people who were passionate about fashion

we started off by having breakfast, and were soon given a presentation of the different stories they'd created to build up their collection

the various stories were paintbox, locker room, white heat, laurel canyon, 70s saint tropez and hotspot

i can see paintbox having a lot of potential if it is styled correctly; what with all the collections designers such as jill sanders sent down the runway recently. many of the printed pieces had a clear miu miu influence

in the saint tropez collection they were consistently successful in creating very flattering 70s silhouettes; especially in their jumpsuits. it was also clear they were focusing on widelegs and the use of softer denim, going with the looser feel similar to dries van noten. crochet knits appeared in large varieties in this story, along with some really beautiful sheer garments

the locker room collection contained a fantastic mix of sweats and unexpected lux items, and had lovely subtle detailing. as a great fan of this style i look forward to sporting the dressed up cas

white heat also contain some truly beautiful pieces - i MUST own the white sheer shirt and collar detail sleeveless dress. some of the more sophisticated and simple designs are very reminiscent of both celine and band of outsiders

although all of them had some great pieces - my particular faves were locker room and white heat

it was great to see the fashion boards they create during the design process

and not to mention the delicious lunch, cocktails and champagne they served

we also had a little styling challenge were we were given one item to style around, i received the white lace top and created the outfit below, excuse the depressed look.. it seems to come naturally haha

i musttt go out and buy these trousers now!

had to go on a trek to find wool to make a dress for my current project

but thankfully it's finallyyyyy warming up here in merry old london

seeing these pictures makes me realise i need a hair cut..

and a good nights sleep

got this top for xmas, its by antipodium, and immediately googled them

i LOVE their stuff and will have to do some more investigating

1. jil sander's white tshirts with block coloured maxi skirts are fantastically refreshing, the make such a bold statement whilst being so simple. kate bosworth was seen looking pretty in the mint green one

2. these asymmetric burnt looking hemline by helmut lang is beautiful; a lovely colour pallet used here

3. the video 'only girl in the world' has reawakened how beautiful blue and red can be

4. the chanel no 5 advert. stunning.

1. despite being a stella mcartney fan these were said to be a love it or hate it style, and the print and shape are so not my thing..

2. men's watched are definitely the most elegant out there at the moment, i'm waiting for the perfect gold loose one

3. just face it, uggs will not survive the weather we're having at the moment

4. its soooo icy out there wooden heels are simply a slipping hazard - opt for a pair of rubber heeled hiking boots

after going to an alexander mcqueen sample sale, where i purchased a snazzy bow tie, we ended up in hackney and found this really cool wall we thought would work well for photos

i also got stopped in the street to have my photo taken for fashion trend searches, which as you might be able to tell made me pretty happy

1. as a self proclaimed olsen fan, i loved ashley's peachy keen look. the jumper had such a lovely texture to it - and that yellow stitching! such a fresh faced look

2. women in menswear; janelle monae does it fantastically. end of. and did you see leighton meister in that suit?

3. the band stone town - just love the song 'make some time'. and the head to toe black outfits.. style and good music, kudos.

4. gisele bundchen's vogue italia shoot - the steamy mix of the lux jewels and the end of a night out look. makes a nice change from the immaculate every-eyelash-in-place red carpet look.

garbage...

1. kitten heels... enough said. unless you're in mad men, please don't.

2. stiletto nails - sadly fashion week seems to have shown these will be making a much more prominent appearance in the coming months.

3. guys, please, when wearing a shirt either wear it buttoned all the way to the top or open over a tshirt, very few can pull off the exposed chest hair.

4. spring 2011 seems to be having a 70s extravaganza. that decade had some momentous designs but it seems that they've now honed in on their worst features; salvatore ferragamo managed to go from masterminding creations such as wedges to this yellow balloon structure. tisk tisk.

i am starting a new regular thursday post

it's gonna be about whats up and down at the moment - the must haves and the must nots

showing you the everything from the gold to the garbage - the fashion to the faux pas.

gold...

1. socks with shoes, whether it be flats of heels, just because its winter doesn't mean we should neglect style. yes they can look a bit cutesy - but by choosing the right colour you can look stylish (and warm)

2. emma watson has come a long way since her garish harry potter ensembles, and is becoming quite the style icon - she definitely knows how to work the short hair

3. asos styling - the online shopping site has had a sudden burst of exciting outfits; making me almost as excited to look at their 'get inspired' section as i am to read vogue. and it just helps even more that they have cool kids like cara delvingne modelling for them

4. tinie tempah - becoming ever prominent in the world of fashion, i think its great how he seems to effortlessly deviate between from minimalism to street wear. if jay z is a self proclaimed fan of tinie, how could we resist?

garbage...

1. parkas be gone - although they are indeed the most easy to wear 'stylish' winter coat as they go with practically everything, they are SO over-worn, and i feel only look good with real fur like that of the marc jacobs parka. so its much better to opt for aviator

2. clogs... need i say more. only about one in a thousand look right - and to me that would have been the kurt geiger boot ones.

3. although i tend to love jeffrey campbell, these shoes really get to me. such an odd shape and totally unflattering in my opinion. but their popularity has sky rocketed - maybe they're the 'once you wear them your in love type'

4. ralph oh ralph how could you go so wrong. although i do own several ralph lauren pieces i'm only a fan on them as seperates. for some reason in the campaigns when they're styles all together they come accross as tacky

yesterday i went into town to check out dover street

i popped into the john rocha store and was totally inspired by all the shapes and textures created

i also payed a visit to the the comme des garcons and apc stores

it was sooo bloody cold out i wore hundreds of layers

i really liked the effect of this outfit - the very fluttery layers were nicely complimented by the sturdiness of the fur, i loved the romantic colour pallet

i tend not to be in favour of fur - but this belonged to my great grandma

and i have a new song which i just LOVE at the moment

it has such a great feel to it - have listen

i used black ink to create these simple silhouettes

i hate drawing faces so i thought i'd add some pizazz with the lips
